Privacy policy
Last updated: October 2, 2026
This policy explains what information HeirloomMath (“we”, “us”), operated by [TO FILL: operator entity], collects when you visit heirloommath.com and how it is used. Contact: [TO FILL: contact email].
What stays on your device
Scan and storage planning, photo histogram inspection, metadata removal, date calculations, census comparisons, kinship calculations, surname codes, and the prompt builders run in your browser. Using these local features does not upload their selected images or entered values to us or to an AI service. You can use them without submitting an AI request.
Local analysis and the optional AI features have separate image controls. Choosing an image for a histogram does not also submit it for AI processing. Copies you download remain on your device; your browser may also retain form values according to its own settings.
Your memoir and saved drafts
The memoir editor runs locally in your browser. Names, chapter text, dates, photo captions, and selected photographs are held in the page’s memory while you work. They are not automatically uploaded or automatically saved. Closing or reloading the page can lose unsaved work.
- Choosing a photograph. Your browser prepares a smaller JPEG copy locally, with a longest side of no more than 1,400 pixels, for the memoir preview and export. This does not overwrite the original file and does not send it to an AI service.
- Saving on this device. Only clicking Save draft on this device stores the memoir text and prepared photos in this browser’s
localStorage, underheirloommath_memoir_draft_v1. It is a local browser copy, not an account, cloud backup, or automatic sync between devices. Someone using the same browser profile may be able to open it. - Restoring or removing a draft. If a saved draft is found, you can choose Restore saved draft. Delete saved draft, after confirmation, removes that saved copy from this browser; it does not erase the memoir currently open in the editor or copies you have already downloaded.
- Exporting and sharing. You can download a self-contained HTML memoir with its photos, download plain text, or use your browser’s print and PDF options. You manage those files and decide whom to share them with. HeirloomMath does not publish them for you. Other apps or services you use to store or send them have their own privacy practices.
Clearing site data, changing browser profiles, or using private browsing can remove or prevent access to a local draft. Browser storage also has size limits. Keep a downloaded copy of anything you want to preserve. Saving or exporting a memoir does not give consent for AI processing; the separate AI tools follow the upload steps below.
Optional AI photo restoration and handwriting transcription
These features process images online. An AI request is sent only after you select an image in the AI tool, check the consent box, and click its restoration or transcription button. Merely visiting a page or choosing a file does not start an AI upload.
- Image preparation. Before upload, your browser makes a working copy, removes embedded EXIF metadata, and reduces the image if necessary so its longest side is no more than 2,048 pixels. Your original file is not overwritten. This does not hide anything visible in the image, such as a face, address, handwritten name, or location clue.
- Where the request goes. The prepared image and the restoration or transcription instructions, including any notes you choose to include, pass through HeirloomMath’s server to Alibaba Cloud Model Studio / Qwen (Beijing, China) for processing. This sends your selected image and notes to a service in China. The service creates a restored photo copy or draft transcription. For photo restoration, HeirloomMath retrieves the generated image from Alibaba Cloud’s temporary output URL and returns a downloadable copy to your browser.
- Our storage design. HeirloomMath does not use permanent image storage or intentionally log image contents, prompts, or transcription text as part of this feature. We retrieve the result to return it to you; we do not keep a permanent copy of the image. This is not an online archive or a backup service. Download any result you want to keep.
- Third-party retention. Alibaba Cloud’s Qwen image-editing API documentation states that generated image URLs are valid for 24 hours and image task data, such as task status and image URLs, is retained for 24 hours before being cleared. This is not a general guarantee that every uploaded input or service log is deleted within 24 hours. Hosting services and Alibaba Cloud may process or retain request metadata for service operation, billing, security, or abuse prevention. We do not promise zero retention.
Submit only images you have permission to share and process. Remove sensitive details you do not want another service to receive. You can choose not to use AI and continue using the local calculators and histogram tools. Consent applies to the request you submit; it does not make local tool inputs part of that request.
